USD 231 staff came together for the district’s annual convocation to celebrate the start of a new school year and reflect on the important role educators and the community play in the lives of students.
Superintendent Huff welcomed staff back by emphasizing the sense of family within USD 231 and the shared commitment to caring for students, one another, and the community.
Staff members took part in a brick activity, where they each selected a word representing what they hope to bring to the district this year. Huff chose “collaboration,” emphasizing that strong schools are built when staff, families, students, and community partners work together. Like individual bricks forming a strong foundation, each person has an important role in the success of USD 231.
Huff also challenged staff to keep one child on their minds and hearts throughout the year, a student who may need extra encouragement, advocacy, or simply someone who believes in them.
The message extends beyond district employees. Every member of the USD 231 community has an opportunity to make a difference. Together, brick by brick and student by student, Gardner Edgerton is building a strong foundation for the year ahead.
