The Pioneer Ridge Middle School gym was filled with more than just basketball excitement last week; it was filled with belonging, encouragement, and community pride as PRMS hosted the Gardner Gold cheer squad for a special inclusion event.
The evening held extra meaning as the Jaguars faced Wheatridge Middle School, bringing together students, staff, and families from across USD 231. From the moment the Gardner Gold families arrived, they were warmly welcomed. Both school communities created an atmosphere of acceptance and celebration.
At halftime, Gardner Gold cheerleaders performed to enthusiastic applause from both sides of the gym. The Wheatridge Middle School basketball team even stepped away from its halftime huddle to stop and watch, joining the crowd in cheering on the performers.
Following the game, families from both schools shared how meaningful the experience had been. Pioneer Ridge Middle and Gardner Gold Cheer coach, Katy Wells, said, “I think this speaks volumes about our learning community and how well we are doing across the board at fostering inclusive learning experiences that benefit not just our students with needs but ALL our students!”
For one night, the scoreboard mattered less than the message: everyone belongs.
